Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to increase the size and enhance the shape of a woman’s breasts. The indications for the procedure are women who feel their breasts are too small and are looking to improve their figure, women who have lost breast volume and shape as a result of pregnancy, aging or weight loss, and women who have a significant difference in the size of their breasts and want them equalized.

The breast augmentation procedure involves the surgical placement of an implant behind the breast or behind the muscular layer. Different types of implants can be used, depending on circumstances. Dr. Nosti takes special care to evaluate each patient, and decides with the patient’s input, which surgery is the best technique, the best type and best shape of the implants, etc. He will also go through numerous pre and post operative photographs to give the patient an idea of the results in different cases.

Patients who are good candidates for a reduction procedure have heavy, possibly sagging breasts, associated with neck, back or shoulder pain, shoulder notching, furrowing from bra straps, irritation or chronic rashes developing beneath the breasts, and difficulty with exercise and physical activity due to the size of the breasts.

The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia and usually takes two to four hours to complete. One can expect a recovery period of approximately two weeks.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

As time passes, pregnancy, nursing, excessive weight loss and gravity have adverse effects on women’s breasts, causing them to lose their elasticity, firmness and shape. This creates a sagging appearance. A mastopexy, or breast lift, is the procedure that corrects this condition, using a combination of removing excess skin and, at times, inserting small implants to give the breasts a natural size and shape.

Dr. Nosti will listen to your concerns about your particular case, he will do an examination and will offer you the best procedure for your particular situation.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction has become one of the most rewarding surgical procedures performed today. Each year, many women become afflicted with breast cancer. Unfortunately for some, this disease leads to the removal of one or both breasts. However, advancements in breast reconstruction have allowed doctors to actually recreate a breast that is almost identical in look and feel of a natural breast.

This is accomplished through the use of breast implants and skin expansion or flap reconstruction techniques. Doctors can even perform breast reconstruction immediately after the breast removal, or mastectomy. This allows the woman to awaken from surgery and not see herself missing a breast. Not only can breast reconstruction help improve appearance; it has helped many women improve their quality of life and regain a sense of femininity. However, this is a major surgical procedure, and there is a lot of information one needs to know before undergoing breast reconstruction.

That is why it is important for a patient to discuss her options with not only her plastic surgeon, but also her breast surgeon.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breasts, a condition that is common and affects a good percentage of the male population. The majority of the cases have no known causes or pathology, while in some cases, this may be related to the use of drugs or a medical condition.

The best candidates for the procedure are healthy, emotionally stable men or boys, who have firm, elastic skin that will reshape after the mastopexy. The procedure is done as an outpatient and is done with general anesthetic or sedation, depending on the extensiveness of the procedure.
